fundati + illustrati — grounded and enlightened
Grounded. Rooted. Stable. The earth beneath the feet, the body present in the moment, the weight of what is real and tangible and here.
Enlightened. Illuminated. Awake. The light above, the mind reaching outward, the hunger to understand what lies beyond the surface of things.
Fundatillus is a name I gave myself. It is a portmanteau — a word built from two others, the way ideas are built from older ones.
Fundati — Latin for grounded. Rooted. Present. The earth beneath the feet, the body in the moment, the weight of what is real and tangible and here.
Illustrati — Latin for enlightened. Illuminated. Awake. The light above, the mind reaching upward, the hunger to understand what lies beyond the surface of things.
"As above, so below. As within, so without."
Together they form a single principle the ancients understood well: as above, so below. The cosmos reflected in the individual. The individual reflected in the cosmos. The inner life as a mirror for the outer world. The outer world as a doorway back to the self.
What drew me to this formulation isn’t mysticism for its own sake — it’s the deep structural idea that levels of reality are not separate. That the questions you ask about the universe are the same questions you ask about yourself. That being truly grounded does not mean closing yourself to the sky. That being truly enlightened does not mean leaving the earth behind.
This is not a contradiction to be resolved. It is a tension to be inhabited.
Why a name at all?
There is something clarifying about choosing a name. It is a commitment to a way of being — an ongoing project, not a fixed identity. Fundatillus reminds me of the posture I want to maintain: standing firmly in the present, eyes open to what’s possible.
It also reflects something about how I move through the world. I am drawn to questions more than answers. I take ideas seriously — even uncomfortable ones. I believe that reason and wonder are not in conflict, that science and spirituality can coexist without either being diminished, that the examined life is worth living precisely because it is harder.
Grounded enough to say I don’t know. Illuminated enough to keep looking anyway.
About this space
This site is where I write. The topics shift — spirituality, quantum physics, politics, human rights, psychedelics, technology — but the underlying current doesn’t. Everything here is an attempt to think clearly about hard things, to stay curious without becoming credulous, and to remain rooted while being moved.
